Beef lasagna

Classic beef lasagna with a homemade white sauce - cuts into eight portions and freezes as easy weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

  • 500 g beef mince
  • 250 g lasagna sheets
  • 1 brown onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 800 g crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 60 g butter
  • 60 g plain flour
  • 750 ml milk
  • 150 g tasty cheese
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Method

  1. Heat the oil in a pot, cook the diced onion for 5 minutes, add the garlic, then brown the mince.
  2. Add the tomato paste and crushed tomatoes, season, and simmer for 15 minutes until thickened.
  3. For the white sauce: melt the butter in a saucepan, stir in the flour and cook 1 minute, then whisk in the milk gradually. Stir until thick, then season.
  4. Preheat the oven to 180C. In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, lasagna sheets and white sauce. Repeat, finishing with white sauce, and top with the grated cheese.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and the sheets are tender. Rest 10 minutes before cutting.
Good to know: Cuts into 8 portions - refrigerate 3 days or freeze individual squares for easy weeknight dinners.
